1. Discuss
the importance of quality team works and team building?
Ans) A group of people
working together to achieve a similar goal is called a team. In a team all the
members should work at their best to get good results over the other team. Just
being a team is not enough but being the best team is what matters. By maintaining
teams in an organization, work is done efficiently by inculcating certain
ground rules. To work together as an efficient team all the members in the
group should maintain good relationship, so that there are no clashes between
their peers.
Some teams are built for
permanent working and some are built for temporary tasks. To build a successful
team, members in the group should be chosen wisely and accordingly given their
tasks. Each member in the team should be assigned work according to their skills
for efficient output. Team leaders should work with responsibility and lead the
team for an efficient output. To build efficient team there is a four step
process: a) Assess b) Plan c)Execute d)Evaluate
2. How
would you handle conflicts in quality teams?
Ans) There are many ways in
which conflicts can occur in teams. Employees who are self-centered and want
work for their future rather than working with the team can cause conflicts.
Egos that do not like to share their credit causes conflicts. In organizations
they have to set a positive example for team work to create good team players.
All the possible responses for the conflict can be in classified into 3
categories a) Personally negative b) Team negative c) Positive. The most
important role of the team leader is to see that the team members respond
positively to the conflict as it is the best of the three categories. Positive
response to a conflict clears the problem in such a way that it increases the
unity of the team and all employees in the team work towards a single goal.
3. How
do you reward quality achievements in a team?
Ans) Team works towards a
goal to achieve it in particular time and everyone works equally hard. Everyone
in the team receive their pay as usual but buy working hard and by achieving more
goals they should be awarded rewards for their extra and hard work. When a
particular member in the team achieves the goal in a better way and works hard
towards it he’ll receive pay as his other team mates but should also be given
extra awards for works. This kind of approach motivates other workers and makes
them work harder towards the goal. The model below shows how the process is
carried out in 4 major steps:
4. How
do you communicate effectively?
Ans) When the received message
is understood it’s called communication. This doesn’t mean it’s efficiently communication
for this the message should be understood clearly and be acted upon it
accordingly. For example, there is a meeting set on Sunday and the manager
sends a broadcast message to all the team members. All of them reply except few,
they might have seen the message but they didn’t care reply as they don’t want
to comply with it. Here in the above situation manager has failed to
communicate efficiently. For efficient communication there are some minimum
factors such as good leadership, motivation, effective monitoring.
5. Why
are listening skills important?
Ans) Listening is not a
natural process but hearing is natural. A person who has good hearing ability
may not be an effective listener. Effective listening includes receiving message
and decoding it then carefully perceiving it. By listening assertively
perception can be improved. It is important to improve listening skills to decode
the data and perceive it precisely. To listen assertively we need to focus on what
we are hearing to decode perfectly without any distractions. Empathetic
listening is highest level of listening as in this way apart from listening
listener also feels what the speaker is feeling in his words.
6. What
are the management strategies for quality-focused interpersonal needs?
Ans) Good interpersonal
skills help workers and higher officials to work effectively. People who don’t have
good interpersonal skills lack communications which is needed for total
quality. Positive interpersonal relations between employees, managers and
different organizations help in total quality settings. There are four basic
management strategies:
Recognition of the need: For
good interpersonal skills managers have to recognize the skills needed for the
job and assign them to the employees. In older days mostly it was depended on
paper work and their achievements. However these are important but
interpersonal skills also play a role.
Careful selection: In
selection process first the credentials and technical knowledge are taken into
consideration. After they are selected from them people with good interpersonal
skills are given more priority as they play a important role.
Training: All the people
with good credentials don’t have good personal skills. But they can achieve
good interpersonal skills by good training. They can be thought how to listen
carefully without distraction and more perception or good interaction with
fellow employees etc.
Measurement and reward: As ever person has different interpersonal
skills and they are measured. The best in the group will be rewarded
accordingly with their achievements.
7. What
are the principles of overcoming negativity and conflicts in the workplace?
Ans) There are few
principles for overcoming negativity and conflicts such as:
Avoid jumping to conclusions:
Talk clearly with the employee and get to know what they support to avoid
conflicts in between the project assigned.
Attribute territorial
behavior to instinct rather than people: Never blame the employee for their
approach without asking them before. Instead discuss with them before and teach
them the skills needed for survival in the organization.
Ensure no employee feels
attacked: Attacking the employee will make them feel bad and trigger their
survival skills.
Avoid generalizations: When an individual makes a mistake never call
the whole group and discuss the issue. It’s always better to talk to the
individual separately.
Understand “irrational”
fears: The survival instinct is a powerful motivator. Managers should be very
careful in handling such type of situations.
Respect each individual’s
perspective: Not respecting every individuals perspective is not good. As everyone
needs to be given chance to speak up their opinion on the topic.
Consider the employee’s
point of view: Apart from listening to their opinion one as a leader should
step into the shoes of his subordinates and think of his opinion.
8. How
can you manage conflict in the workplace?
Ans) The most important
conflict in a work place is human conflicts and it cannot be avoided in total
quality setting also. Conflicts mainly occur due to difference in opinion one
employee disagrees other employees opinion. The way in which we disagree also
matters never stand out and say I don’t like you opinion, the way u disagree
should such that it should never show up like you are disagreeing with his
opinion. No matter how much ever you work together conflicts will definitely
occur, therefore it’s the manager’s job to resolve the conflicts regularly at
the earliest for better output.
9. How do
you communicate in conflict situations?
Ans) Communication in
conflict situation is crucial as everything depends on how we listen and
perceive the situation. When there is conflict before a fight it’s better to
talk and resolve the situation before it goes any further where communication won’t
matter anymore. Certain guidelines should be set in advance such that when a conflict
occurs who takes the decisions to resolve the conflicts. Never blame each other
in a conflict which is a common case in any conflict, as you start blaming each
other it always increases but never goes down. When certain method is not effective
in resolving conflicts never stick to it, rather change the way of resolving
for better results. Maintain trust with your workers as resolving conflicts
without being trust worthy is impossible.
10. Why does quality
suffer if there is a major conflict?
Ans) When there are conflicts
in a group they cause several problems which effect the organization. When
there are conflicts in a team they keep increasing but they never resolve on
their own if the manager doesn’t take a step to look into such issues.
Conflicts will destroy relationships between the employees even though later
they are resolved some issues still arise it’s better to be cautious than act
later on it. Conflicts cause major damage to the organization as the
performance of the employees decreases.

Union To Discuss IN
Pillsbury Plant Set To Close
This article mainly
discusses about the closure of Pillsbury refrigerated goods plant in New
Albany, Indiana. General mills is willing to close this plant in mid of 2016
but this decision can only be finalized after
confirming it with the union which consists of workers. In the article
they didn’t mention the reason for closing the plant but mostly any business is
closed because of not making profits up to the mark. Salary for workers per
hour in this plant is around 26$ an hour with increase in second and third
shifts. As the general mills associate think it’s already a good pay whereas
union is still asking for raise.
BP Back In Court, This Time
For Clean Water Act Penalties
BP was responsible for the
biggest oil disaster that ever occurred in U.S history which now facing big
consequences legally. This occurred in 2010 which caused death of eleven
workers and explosion caused lot of damage to the surroundings including marine
life. BP has paid 42 billion and the case is back to court and still have to
charges against them. They might still have a lot to pay to the government for
the damage caused to the surroundings, BP could pay around 13.7 billion in
clear water penalties. The trails are still intact for few weeks and we need to
wait and see the results. BP definitely has to be punished according to my
opinion but 42 billion is a lot. But nature is priceless and the damage caused
is pretty bad.
Disney Robot Draws Giant
Sketches on the Beach
This article discusses about
the Disney’s beach robot, which draws sketches in the beach sand. It consists
of three units in the robot such as WIFI, laser scanner and IMU (inertial
memory unit). There are four poles set on the sand as a boundary of the sketch
and the laser mounted on the back of the robot helps it in navigating it.
Disney had many problems but they finally created one which can draw sketches
in 10-meter-by-10-meter radius. Now Disney is working on increasing the area in
which the sketches are drawn by the robot. The discussions carried out on
Moodle are absolutely true as Disney has always one of the best innovating
companies. As the robot they created is highly reliable and works perfectly
without any problems.
